Puerto José Banús, better known simply as Puerto Banús, is located in the Nueva Andalucia town just 6 kilometres west of Marbella. The luxurious marina was built by local property developer José Banús, who was a close friend of former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. What was once a small fishing village, the newly-built marina and shopping complex was inaugurated in May 1970.
Puerto Banús is now known as being the playground for the rich and famous, and is also well known among locals and holidaymakers for its stunning beaches and incredible nightlife. Many designer boutiques can be found in the area, as it’s well known for it’s luxury and expensive lifestyle. There is also a casino and a shopping centre nearby.
The marina itself is surrounded by two blue flag beaches, with their traditional Mediterranean promenades with bars and chiringuitos. The promenades go all the way to Marbella on one side, and down to San Pedro de Alcántara on the other side - both within walking distance.
