Sat on Mija's coastline, the Sitio de Calahonda urbanisation is one of the largest property developments between Marbella and Fuengirola. Although officially part of La Cala de Mijas, which also falls into the Mijas municipality, this large urbanisation could be a town of its own, due to its size and accessibility to all necessities for residents.
Calahonda is known for its tranquility and rustic styles. Although a developed area, large plots and green areas can be found throughout the urbanisation, and limits have been put on building plans and apartment buildings.
Calahonda has become a place with endless opportunities and things to do. Although a lot of the area is taken up by villas, townhouses and apartment complexes, the urbanisation is still home to four golf courses and every amenity that residents may want to enjoy. In the urbanisations three commercial centres, residents can find seven different banks, as well as many cafeterias, restaurants and bars. The commercial centres also house several supermarkets and many businesses to provide every product imaginable to local residents.
Although Calahonda itself has four golf courses, there are six more within just 10 kilometres of the area. Watersports are also common in Calahonda as it has its very own part of the famous Mediterranean coastline. The predominantly German and English population can also enjoy the local tennis courts and fitness centres.
In regards to healthcare, the government-funded state-of-the-art medical centre, the Hospital Costa del Sol, is just a short distance from Calahonda. The urbanisation itself has three medical centres, as well as a 24 hour pharmacy.

The English International School is located 10 minutes from the urbanisation. There are private Catholic schools run by the Grupo Atendis, just a short drive from Calahonda. Public schools are in La Cala de Mijas, and the schools provide transport for students from Calahonda.
